The bad news is that while it’s more budget-friendly, it understandably comes with some restrictions.

The obvious upside is that it’s significantly less expensive than Akai’s other most portable standalone model, the MPC Live. OverviewĬoming in under $700, the MPC One is the cheapest of the standalone MPC units, which brings some good news and some bad. With the MPC X and Live being so successful, is this hybrid of the two necessary? Is it worth it? Let’s find out. The latest addition, the MPC One, is said to be an entry-level unit with advanced features beyond its price point. Recent years have seen Akai go back to their roots, focusing on standalone models like the MPC X and MPC Live, much to the delight of producers everywhere. Despite securing legendary status over the decades, not every new addition to the MPC family has been met with universal acclaim. The ones in the software are VSTs but they're hardcoded in the app like Logic's are.Consordinis articles are written by musicians who independently research, test, and recommend the best instruments and products. I wish Akai had VST/AU versions of their plugins too, the Tape Delay plugin is basically the old Akai Headrush pedal but you can adjust the volume of each individual tape head this time! Its AWESOME for dubby stuff. They give you a free license for the regular AIR plugins, but its missing some of the other plugins the MPC has, but the rest are in the 'Plus' collection. I liked em enough, that I actually bought the Air Plus collection (along with the Melda one) to keep as a set of basic plugs should I ever need to ditch Logic and use Reaper or something. I can get my tracks about 90% of the way there in the box, so by the time I track the finished product in Logic, I only need to do some minimal EQing or compressing to make the MPC tracks gel next to the EMU's tracks and what not. Every channel gets inserts, along with the master bus, plus there's also 4 send busses as well. If you're coming from any of the older MPC's the effects on the new ones blow the rest away.

They sound alot better than the Akai plugs when it comes to the EQ's/Comps/etc but both brands are pretty decent.

I mean they're not Waves or UAD or anything but if you look at them like a set of bread and butter tools like Logic Pro comes with they're ace! I didn't use them for the longest time because on the software side they dont have GUIs, but on the actual MPC they do so they're a bit easier to use.

It was hell for all the MPC owners from like last June up until sometime this year when they finally fixed all the registration shit, the expired iLok codes being given out to new registered users, existing users iLok codes suddenly locking them out, firmware and software updates being stuck on 2 year old versions for people that JUST bought their units (mine finally updated for the first time since I bought it after the last update), etc. Im shocked its been running as well as it has this long. To be fair, whoever runs the website for Akai/inMusic might have eaten too many lead paint chips when they were a kid. I was signed in to my Akai account when I did it, but I doubt that matters, Ive seen plenty of MPC heads complaining about getting theirs too. I did it when I got home from work last night, I got mine literally right after I signed up for it. I keep seeing EVERYBODY complaining about the download links. Im assuming the VST/AU is exactly the same as well, so you can load as many as you want.

Its 8 MIDI/MPC tracks and 2 audio tracks vs 128 and 8 (even the full MPC Software isn't quite a DAW with only 8 stereo tracks). This one is just the MPC Software 2.0 Lite.

But the manual even told you to load as many instances as you wanted in your DAW. The old version MPC Essentials was based on the MPC 1.0 software and it was only one track. The MPC Essentials was always a plugin, so is the MPC Software.
